GIGA Storage unveils Green Turtle – Europe’s largest battery project

Storage

Belgium – GIGA Storage is set to embark on the development of Green Turtle, an energy storage project in Dilsen-Stokkem, Belgium, boasting an unprecedented total storage capacity of 2400 MWh.

The project, strategically positioned next to a new 380kV high-voltage substation from Elia, marks a significant leap in energy storage capabilities and aims to revolutionize the region’s renewable energy landscape.

The primary goal of the Green Turtle project is to store and supply renewable energy during periods of reduced solar and wind energy production. By doing so, the project aims to decrease reliance on traditional power stations, fostering a more sustainable and resilient energy infrastructure. The chosen location, aligned with the high-voltage line from Van Eyck to Gramme and connected to the Dutch grid, underscores the project’s strategic importance.

Europe’s largest battery project

Green Turtle stands out as the largest battery project in Europe, signaling a paradigm shift in the scale and scope of energy storage initiatives. GIGA Storage’s ambitious vision extends beyond this groundbreaking project, with plans to achieve a staggering 5 GW of installed capacity by 2030. The company’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of energy storage technology positions it as a key player in Europe’s transition to cleaner and more efficient power solutions.
