ScottishPower and Shell support Scotland’s offshore wind

Renewables

United Kingdom – ScottishPower and Shell are set to invest a total of £75 million to support the offshore wind industry’s growth in Scotland’s supply chain and businesses.

At the start of the year, Crown Estate Scotland’s ScotWind Leasing awarded ScottishPower and Shell the seabed rights to develop two new floating wind projects. The projects are the MarramWind joint venture off Scotland’s north coast and the CampionWind joint venture off Scotland’s east coast.

Stimulus fund

ScottishPower was also awarded seabed rights for MachairWind, a fixed foundation project off the coast of Islay (2GW). The projects have the potential to generate enough clean energy to power nearly 8.5 million homes – more than three times Scotland’s population.

Each of the floating projects will receive a £25 million supply chain stimulus fund from ScottishPower and Shell, with ScottishPower alone providing a £25 million fund for MachairWind. The funds will accept applications later this year.
