Germany – Construction has started on RWE’s next German onshore wind farm, the 22.8-megawatt Sandbostel-Bevern project in Lower Saxony.
In the Rotenburg district, on the outskirts of the Hamburg metropolitan area, four Nordex wind turbines are being built. The project is unique in that RWE owns three turbines with a total installed capacity of 17.1 megawatts (MW), while another identical turbine with a nominal capacity of 5.7 MW is built on behalf of the local citizens’ cooperative OsteWind GmbH. This turbine will be run by the cooperative itself.
The new wind farm in northern Lower Saxony not only demonstrates RWE’s commitment to implementing every feasible renewable energy project in Germany, but it also demonstrates that working with local partners is an excellent way to accelerate the energy transition. By 2030, RWE wants to invest up to €15 billion in offshore and onshore wind, solar, storage, flexible backup capacities, and hydrogen.
