HSM bags deal for first Dutch offshore wind powered gas platform

Oil&Gas Renewables

The Netherlands – Dutch HSM Offshore Energy (HSM) has received a Contract Award for the first electrified ONE-Dyas N05-A gas production platform in the North Sea, which will be powered exclusively by offshore wind energy.

The so-called GEMS area, which is located 20 to 80 kilometers north of the Ems estuary, includes the N05-A project. The Riffgat offshore wind farm nearby will provide all of the renewable energy needed for the N05-A platform’s operation, cutting emissions almost entirely in half. Together with partners EBN and Hansa Hydrocarbons, ONE-Dyas reached the final investment decision for the development of the N05-A gas field in September of this year. It is the greatest investment in a natural gas development in the Netherlands in the previous 15 years, totaling more than EUR 500 million.

Connecting wind and gas

A sustainable alternative in the energy mix is to connect offshore wind farms with natural gas generating plants. Natural gas that is produced locally has a 30% smaller carbon footprint than natural gas that is imported, and it also promotes the security of the local energy supply and boosts the local economy.

By the end of 2024, ONE-Dyas hopes to deliver the first natural gas to Dutch and German consumers. HSM has already begun the manufacture in Schiedam.
