Topsoe demonstrates SOEC technology in Denmark

Hydrogen

Denmark – Topsoe has successfully conducted an inaugural demonstration test for its Solid Oxide Electrolyzer Cell (SOEC) electrolysis technology at the company’s demonstration site in Frederikssund, Denmark.

The primary goal of Topsoe’s SOEC electrolysis technology is to enable the rapid decarbonization of the planet by providing a more efficient solution for hydrogen production compared to conventional electrolysis technologies. With a vision aligned with achieving net zero emissions by 2050, Topsoe aims to revolutionize the Power-to-X industry by introducing innovative and scalable decarbonization technology to the market.

The SOEC electrolysis technology developed by Topsoe operates by converting electricity into hydrogen through a high-temperature process. During the demonstration test held at the company’s site in Frederikssund, Topsoe evaluated the performance of 12 SOEC stacks comprising a total of 1,200 cells. The technology demonstrated exceptional stability and temperature control, showcasing its suitability for industrial-scale hydrogen production.

Accelerating energy transition

Topsoe’s demonstration of the SOEC electrolysis technology represents a significant step towards accelerating the energy transition. By providing a more efficient and reliable method for producing green hydrogen, the technology has the potential to drive widespread adoption of hydrogen as a clean energy source across various industries, including transportation, manufacturing, and power generation.
