HGK Shipping, Port of Rotterdam partner on inland waterways sustainability

Hydrogen Sustainable energy

The Netherlands – A long-term cooperation agreement was inked by HGK Shipping and the Port of Rotterdam Authority to advance environmentally friendly ideas for inland waterway services leading to and from seaports.

The agreement largely focuses on the energy revolution, hydrogen logistics, and lowering CO2 emissions through the employment of cutting-edge driving technologies and digitalization. In order to guarantee dependable and sustainable supply for industry, these issues are of utmost importance. The agreement guarantees the continuation of reliable supply chains both within Europe and between Germany and the Netherlands.

The largest seaport in Europe and the largest inland waterway shipping firm in Europe will continue to work closely together as part of the collaboration agreement to share information and mutually assess the opportunities that arise for both parties. To support the energy revolution, a trustworthy supply chain for hydrogen and its derivatives as well as alternative renewable fuels is about to be built.

Alternative energy sources

The partners will examine, among other things, how the need for services to transport, store, and tranship alternative energy sources is likely to grow. Making the inland waterway fleet more environmentally friendly and developing implementation concepts for renewable engine fuels are two more crucial factors in this context.

Supply chains

In order to be able to organize procedures in a more effective, adaptable, and sustainable manner, HGK Shipping and the Port of Rotterdam Authority also want to increase transparency along supply chains. Along with exchanging information regarding the amounts and varieties of items that are transported and transhipped, for instance, the objective of this project is to involve other stakeholders. This is expected to happen as a result of collaboration on digital platform efforts that facilitate information sharing and communications for all parties involved in the supply chain and work to achieve standardization further inland.
