Germany – The official groundbreaking ceremony for H-TEC Systems’ new facility in the Hamburg area of Rahlstedt took place.
The formal groundbreaking ceremony for a new plant was held in the presence of figures from politics and business.
One location
Future stack development, production, testing, and service will all take place at the H-TEC Systems Stack Manufacturing & Development Center, which will eventually employ several hundred people. There will automatically produce PEM electrolysis stacks starting as early as next year, offering a potential overall electrolysis capacity of up to 5 gigawatts. The PEM electrolyzers’ stacks, which are constructed at the company’s headquarters in Augsburg, constitute their beating heart. Additionally, a customer and training center is being considered, where customers and other interested parties from all over the world will be assisted in putting hydrogen solutions into action safely and as efficiently as possible.
Research
The Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) provided funding for the automated factory’s construction as part of the PEP.IN research project through the H2Giga lead hydrogen generation initiative. In order to make green hydrogen accessible and cost-effective, the project’s goal is to investigate new and inventive technologies for the competitive and serial manufacture of PEM electrolysis stacks and electrolyzers in Germany. In the Stack Manufacturing & Development Center, H-TEC Systems will create a new generation of stacks with improved performance in addition to the tried-and-true S450 stacks.
Manufacturing and development
H-TEC Systems is bolstering its position in the hydrogen market and significantly advancing the global hydrogen push with the opening of the new production facility in Hamburg.
H-TEC Systems deliberated in favor of the new location in Hamburg along with the parent business, MAN Energy Solutions, and is therefore unmistakably committed to Germany as a production location. The supply chains, which are also necessary for the stack production, are mostly based on supply business operations in Germany and Europe.
Hamburg Victoria Park
On a 35,000 square meter parcel of land in Victoria Park, a business sector in Hamburg’s Rahlstedt neighborhood that is located on the border with Schleswig-Holstein, the new structure is being constructed. On a total area of 18,000 square meters, hydrogen industry specialist H-TEC Systems is building a cutting-edge, climate-neutral production and development site there. 11,400 square meters of space are dedicated to manufacturing in the new structure. Additionally, there are 6,200 square meters of offices and communal spaces, along with a 300 square meter roof terrace.
PV systems
To produce renewable energy, photovoltaic systems with an output of up to 2 megawatts will be installed on the structure and in the nearby multi-story parking garage. The district heating network will provide the building with heat. Cisterns filled with rainwater supply water the green spaces. E-charging stations are already installed in the parking places for automobiles and bicycles.
The goal is to have the building certified to the platinum standard, the German Sustainable Building Council’s highest honor. On the exterior space, company employees will have access to a boulder wall. A 300 square meter roof patio and recreation places that are close to nature smartly complete the creative architectural idea.
Joint enterprise
A joint venture between the Jebens Group and Garbe Industrial Real Estate GmbH is being used to carry out the project. During the creation of the joint venture and the leasing agreement with H-TEC Systems, the Hamburg-based German Property Partners (GPP) member firm Grossmann & Berger served as an intermediary. The project’s general contractor is Köster GmbH, while Drees & Sommer provided planning assistance for the plant and building.
