Belgium and Namibia jointly develop new port for green fuels

Energy Infrastructure

Belgium/Namibia – During a state visit by the Belgian King to Namibia, the Port of Antwerp-Bruges and Namibia’s port authority, Namport, signed an agreement. The two parties want to jointly build a new port north of the Walvis Bay facilities. The new port should become a hub for green industry and logistics, storage and bunkering of green fuels.

With this, the Belgian and Namibian ports want to develop infrastructure for the hydrogen economy to facilitate the green transition in both countries.

The theme of the Belgian king’s visit to the African country is green hydrogen. Namibia’s ambition is to be climate neutral by 2050. The country has great potential in terms of generating green energy, both wind and solar energy. The country wants to use this potential to produce green hydrogen. By 2050, Namibia wants to produce 10 to 15 million tons of hydrogen per year.
