LyondellBasell acquires stake in plastic waste recycling company DPSR

Circular economy

The Netherlands – LyondellBasell, a global leader in plastics, chemicals, and refining, has acquired a 50% stake in Rodepa Vastgoed, the holding company of De Paauw Sustainable Resources (DPSR).

DPSR is a Dutch plastic waste recycling company that sources, processes, and trades post-consumer and post-industrial plastic packaging waste. The company has production facilities located in Hengelo and Enschede, the Netherlands, with an annual processing capacity equivalent to the amount of plastic packaging waste generated by over 1.7 million Dutch citizens per year.

Recycled plastics

The acquisition of DPSR aligns with LyondellBasell’s strategy to increase its access to plastic waste feedstock and expand its production and offering of CirculenRecover products, which are mechanically recycled polymers. Demand for recycled plastics is growing rapidly, as consumers and brand owners increasingly demand sustainable materials. Through its collaboration with DPSR, LyondellBasell aims to further expand its CirculenRecover portfolio and create new solutions for its customers.

DPSR uses a variety of technologies to recycle plastic waste, including mechanical recycling, which involves sorting, cleaning, and shredding the waste, followed by melting and extrusion to produce recycled pellets. The company also uses chemical recycling, which converts plastic waste back into its base chemicals, which can then be used to produce new plastic products.
