New study in Japan to accelerate chemical recycling

Important milestone Plastic2Chemicals project Indaver

Chemcycling

Belgium – Indaver has successfully made the first products at its new pre-treatment facility in Willebroek. Pretreatment of plastic waste streams is essential in the recycling process, especially for plastics that cannot be mechanically recycled, the company says.

Indaver wants to make these end-of-life waste plastics suitable for chemical recycling. The pretreatment process consists of three steps. First, each piece of plastic is sorted and impurities are removed. Then the waste stream is washed and dried. Finally, Indaver turns the plastic flakes into a high-quality stream that it can use in its Plastic2Chemicals plant.

In the coming weeks and months, the Indaver team is working to improve quality and increase production. Indaver plans to fully commission the pretreatment plant in September.
