Siemens Gamesa to install SG 5.8-155 turbines in Scotland

Renewables

United Kingdom – Siemens Gamesa has signed a 50 MW agreement with EnergieKontor UK to provide the Longhill Burn wind farm near Edinburgh with SG 5.8-155 turbines, one of the most efficient wind turbines in the market.

The deal arrives before the next sale of green energy, CfD round 4, planned for the end of this year. The agreement reveals green shoots for the resilient onshore wind industry in the United Kingdom and is a positive indicator that one of the lowest cost sources of electricity is capable of helping to achieve the country’s ambitious net zero goal.

State-of-the-art technology

The contract is also the first for the Siemens Gamesa 5.X platform in the United Kingdom, a platform with a massive 155-meter rotor and state-of-the-art technology offering one of the best onshore wind ratings and a variable rating capacity of 6.6 MW. The order for the wind turbine is followed by a 25-year full-scope service agreement.

The UK intends to install enough offshore wind to power every home in the UK by 2030, with a goal of 40 GW of installed capacity. By comparison, according to RenewableUK, onshore wind could rise to 30 GW by 2030, up from 13.6 GW today.
