Hav Design to develop methanol-fueled SOV for Ørsted in UK

Renewables

United Kingdom – HAV Design has been selected by ESVAGT to develop an offshore wind service operation vessel (SOV) for Ørsted’s UK East Regional program.

HAV Design will provide a ship design as well as an integrated equipment package that includes the propulsion system, engines, propellers, and positioning system. The contract is worth around NOK 200 million in total.

Hybrid vessel

HAV 833 SOV is the design of the newbuild hybrid vessel. The vessel will be outfitted with a methanol-electric propulsion system, as well as a battery pack, allowing for very low to zero-emission operations. The SOV will be 93 meters long and 19.6 meters wide, with a capacity of 124 people.

The vessel will play an important role in the operation and maintenance of Ørsted’s “UK East Regional program,” which includes the Horn Sea Two Offshore Wind Farm off the coast of the United Kingdom. The SOV’s primary mission is to safely transport technicians and spare parts to and from offshore wind turbines and substations.
