United Kingdom – Wood has teamed up with Centrica Storage to assess the feasibility of transforming the Easington gas processing terminal into a low-carbon production hub. In partnership with Equinor, Centrica Storage aims to supply hydrogen to the Humber region, making use of the East Yorkshire-based hub.
The Easington low-carbon hub, planned to be developed over the next decade, aligns with Centrica’s ambition to achieve net-zero emissions by 2045. Hydrogen plays a vital role in this endeavor, contributing to the UK’s broader net-zero targets.
Wood will leverage its extensive expertise in the hydrogen sector to evaluate various development scenarios for the hub. These scenarios will include the construction of green and blue hydrogen production facilities, along with the necessary offsites and utilities. The creation of the Easington hub, if realized, would provide secure and low-carbon energy to the region, bolstering the UK’s energy transition.
Hydrogen implementation
Together, they are exploring opportunities to fulfill their pledge of facilitating the UK’s transition to net-zero emissions. Their goal is to establish over 1 gigawatt of green and blue low-carbon hydrogen production capacity at the Easington site in East Yorkshire.
The partnership between Wood and Centrica Storage builds upon their strategic alliance and leverages Wood’s extensive experience in the hydrogen sector. As the project moves into the design phase, the collaboration will be instrumental in driving forward the development and implementation of this ambitious low-carbon hydrogen initiative.
