United Kingdom – A multi-hundred megawatt (MW) green hydrogen production facility is being developed, built, and operated by ScottishPower and Hutchison Ports at the Port of Felixstowe.
At Britain’s busiest container port, both businesses have outlined their goals for fostering a greener port that could offer customers clean fuel.
To create liquid forms like green ammonia or e-methanol, plans are being developed to use green hydrogen for on-shore uses like transportation (road, rail, and industry). As a result, clean fuels for transportation and aviation may become available, and opportunities for economically viable export to foreign markets may arise. From 2025 onward, the project intends to keep up engineering and site development efforts in order to meet customer demand.
Transforming industry
Green hydrogen, which is “homemade,” has obvious advantages for the security of the UK’s energy supply and is a secure, long-term energy solution that could be essential for those whose operations cannot be decarbonized solely through renewable electricity.
Green hydrogen has the potential to transform the heavy transport industry, which is a significant contributor to the UK’s current carbon emissions, as well as accelerating the possibility for cleaner industrial processes at the port.
