HyCC awards Djewels green hydrogen project contracts

Hydrogen

The Netherlands – HyCC’s 100% owned Djewels B.V. has hired Technip Energies to design and build the 20 megawatt green hydrogen plant, and McPhy to supply the electrolysers.

A final investment decision for the project, which HyCC hopes to make later this year, is a condition of the deal.

In Delfzijl, the Netherlands, there will be a facility for electrolysis called Djewels. HyCC will run the facility, which can manufacture up to 3,000 tons of green hydrogen annually utilizing water and electrolysers from McPhy and renewable energy sources. OCI Methanol Europe can produce renewable methanol using the green hydrogen, cutting CO2 emissions by up to 27,000 tons annually. The project is also supported by the businesses Gasunie, DeNora, and Hinicio.

Augmented McLyzer

Djewels will be the first facility of this size to use “Augmented McLyzer” technology from McPhy, which has better current density and offers manufacturing flexibility with less need for space. This is a significant development that will allow for the expansion of environmentally friendly hydrogen production in support of decarbonizing European industry and achieving climate targets.

Hydrogen Valley

For the Province of Groningen and the larger Hydrogen Valley in the Northern Netherlands, Djewels is a flagship project that supports the sustainable growth of local industries. The local Waddenfonds provided funding for its development. Additionally receiving financing from the Clean Hydrogen Partnership (formerly FCH-JU), the project has also appealed for funding from the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs to help spread this ground-breaking technology.
