Europe – The Green Octopus 2.0 project has begun, with the goal of coordinating the EU’s diverse regional strengths through a bottom-up strategy by developing a platform with the adaptability to meet the rapid changes in the hydrogen industry.
The ultimate goal of the initiative is to help establish a unified market for hydrogen across the Netherlands, Belgium, and Germany. It is expected that the main focus of this multi-year effort will be the harmonization of policy, legislation, and standards between the Benelux countries and their neighboring regions in Germany and France.
In 2019, WaterstofNet launched the first phase of the project with the goal of bridging the gaps in the hydrogen value chain.
Flagship project
The Green Octopus partners have submitted over twenty IPCEI projects so far, with some of them having already received approval from the European Commission. Hydrogen Europe has designated Green Octopus as a Flagship project, and it has a strong presence on both the national and EU levels.
Port of Antwerpen–Brugge (BE), OGE (D), Inovyn (BE), Bosch (D), Port of Rotterdam (NL), and North Sea Port (NL/BE) are the current project partners.
