Air Liquide and Dow renew industrial gas supply deal in Germany

Energy

Germany – Air Liquide and Dow have renewed their industrial gas supply agreement in Stade, Lower Saxony, Germany.

Under the renewed agreement, Air Liquide is set to invest approximately 40 million euros in modernizing its assets at the Stade facility. This investment aims to revolutionize industrial practices by integrating cutting-edge technology to reduce CO₂ emissions and improve energy efficiency. Key components of the modernization plan include the upgrade of two Air Separation Units (ASU) and one Partial Oxidation plant (POX), along with the implementation of a new CO₂ recycling solution.

Innovative solutions

The modernization efforts will leverage innovative solutions such as CO₂ recycling to enable a circular use of the carbon dioxide produced during industrial processes. By incorporating this technology, Air Liquide anticipates a 15% increase in energy efficiency and a reduction of approximately 15,000 tonnes/year in CO₂ emissions. Notably, these emission reductions represent a significant portion, accounting for 80% of the direct CO₂ emissions at the Stade site.

The investment in modernization aligns with Air Liquide’s ADVANCE strategic plan, which aims to slash the group’s carbon emissions by one-third by 2035. The partnership between Air Liquide and Dow exemplifies a shared vision for sustainability and innovation in the chemical production industry.
