Neste and Eppendorf unveil renewable plastic consumables

Biobased Circular economy

Germany – Neste has collaborated with Eppendorf on the creation of a line of lab consumables made from renewable raw materials, introducing the Eppendorf Consumables BioBased series.

This innovative range, including tubes and pipette tips, is manufactured using Neste RE, derived from 100% renewable raw materials like used cooking oil.

The primary goal of this collaboration is to provide the life science industry with a sustainable alternative to traditional single-use plastics. Labs, significant consumers of such plastics, now have access to Eppendorf Consumables BioBased, contributing to a considerable reduction in the carbon footprint.

Neste RE

The cornerstone of this innovation is Neste RE, a feedstock exclusively sourced from renewable raw materials. The tubes, screw caps, and pipette tips are made of certified polypropylene based on renewable raw materials. These materials ensure that Eppendorf’s BioBased products maintain the same high performance as their fossil oil-based counterparts, meeting stringent scientific experiment requirements.

The launch of Eppendorf Consumables BioBased marks a significant contribution to the life science industry’s journey to a more sustainable future.
