Holland Malt opens emission-free Eemshaven malting plant

Sustainable energy

The Netherlands – Holland Malt has inaugurated world’s first emission-free malting house in Eemshaven.

The primary goal of Holland Malt’s emission-free malting house is to minimize its carbon footprint and energy consumption throughout the malting process. By eliminating the use of natural gas and transitioning to sustainable energy sources, such as heat pumps and wind-generated electricity, the company aims to significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions associated with malt production.

Heat pumps utilize ambient heat from the surroundings to provide energy for heating, thereby eliminating the need for fossil fuels. Additionally, the company has entered into agreements with renewable energy providers, such as Windpark Oostzeedijk, to ensure a consistent supply of sustainably generated electricity to power its operations.

New standard

The establishment of the emission-free malting house not only demonstrates Holland Malt’s commitment to environmental stewardship but also sets a new standard for sustainability in the brewing industry. By showcasing the feasibility of emission-free production processes, the company paves the way for other malt manufacturers to adopt similar initiatives, ultimately contributing to global efforts to combat climate change.

Holland Malt’s commitment to sustainability extends beyond the inauguration of the emission-free malting house.
