Vestas expands EnVentus platform

Renewables

Denmark Vestas has introduced the EnVentus platform’s V162-6.8 MW wind turbine to lead the expansion of wind energy and leverage modular product development to offer enhanced customization for medium to high wind sites.

The V162-6.8 MW is globally applicable and combines a higher power rating with operational flexibility to deliver up to 7% annual energy production (AEP) depending on project-specific conditions. The V162-6.8 MW has three power ratings: 6.5 MW, 6.8 MW, and 7.2 MW, as well as expanded site applicability via an optional larger CoolerTop. The enhanced EnVentus powertrain and power conversion systems are responsible for the performance gains.

The V162-6.8 MW will have improved transportability and siteability thanks to Vestas’ new modularised nacelle concept, in which the nacelle structure is divided into the main nacelle house containing the powertrain and the side compartment containing the power system including converter and transformer. Both nacelle compartments are dimensioned to meet general industry logistics standards for road, rail, and ocean transportation, requiring less specialized handling.

The EnVentus platform is the next generation of Vestas technology, building on and leveraging proven technology from the 2 MW, 4 MW, and 9 MW platforms to more efficiently meet customisation needs through advanced modularity. Vestas has received orders for more than 5 GW across 13 markets on four continents since the launch of the EnVentus platform in 2019.
