DEME and FARIA Renewables unite for Greek offshore wind exploration

Renewables

Belgium/Greece – DEME and FARIA Renewables have entered into a cooperation agreement to explore and co-develop offshore wind farms in Greece.

The collaboration comes in response to the Greek government’s ambitious draft ‘National Offshore Wind Farms Development Programme,’ aiming to position Greece as a major player in the growing Mediterranean offshore wind industry.

The primary objective of this strategic partnership is to assess and capitalize on Greece’s offshore wind potential. The partnership aligns with global goals for zero emissions, emphasizing the crucial role of offshore wind technology. DEME and FARIA Renewables aim to leverage their collective knowledge to identify optimal offshore wind farm sites in Greece. The cooperation will involve thorough research, exploration, and engagement with local stakeholders.

Substantial capacity

The Greek ‘National Offshore Wind Farms Development Programme’ estimates a substantial capacity of around 4.9 GW in mid-term projects (up to 2030-2032) and a further 12.4 GW in the longer term. The collaboration between DEME and FARIA Renewables seeks to expedite the realization of these capacities, fostering a sustainable and competitive offshore wind sector.
