Provaris and Norwegian Hydrogen to build 270MW green hydrogen plant

Hydrogen

Norway – Provaris and Norwegian Hydrogen have teamed up to build a large-scale green hydrogen generating plant in Ørskog, Ålesund municipality.

With the help of this innovative initiative, one of the largest green hydrogen production plants in the Nordic region will be built. This partnership marks a critical turning point in Norway’s march toward a sustainable, emission-free future because it has the ability to meet local demand and supply green energy to Europe.

The green hydrogen plant’s main objective is to hasten the transition to a society and economy without emissions. The facility will drastically reduce CO2 emissions, equivalent to about 500,000 tonnes yearly, by creating 40,000 tonnes of green hydrogen each year. This significant reduction, which accounts for more than 20% of Møre og Romsdal’s emissions, makes a notable contribution to the fight against global warming.

270 MW capacity

When fully constructed, the hydrogen plant will be 270 MW in capacity. The 20 MW capacity that was initially approved is just the beginning; a 250 MW capacity request has already been made and is currently being processed. Electrolysis, using renewable energy sources, is the process used to create green hydrogen. In addition to producing hydrogen, this technique also creates oxygen and surplus heat, which may be used by surrounding companies for a variety of activities.

This green hydrogen plant’s construction will have a significant impact. The availability of emission-free energy for the maritime sector, heavy vehicles, and industrial operations will expand in addition to the reduction of CO2 emissions. Additionally, the project will directly produce over 50 new jobs and several indirect employment opportunities. Significant value creation for the region will encourage regional economic development and prosperity.
