Nel enters electrolyzer contracts in Germany and Norway

Hydrogen

Germany/Norway – Nel has entered into two electrolyzer contracts: one in Germany with HH2E and one in Norway with Statkraft, the largest renewable energy provider in Europe.

For two 60 MW electrolyzer plants in Germany, Nel Hydrogen Electrolyser and HH2E agreed to conduct a FEED (Front End Engineering and Design) study and sign a Statement of Intent. After a definite purchase order is placed, the FEED will start, and the parties hope to sign a contract for electrolyzer equipment in the first half of 2023.

The two 60 MW plants from HH2E will be among the biggest green hydrogen production facilities in Europe so far. Both facilities are in their initial stages and have the capacity to be further enlarged. The hydrogen will be used for heating, transportation, and industrial purposes. By 2030, HH2E wants to have 4 GW of electrolyzer capacity in Germany.

Statkraft deal

Moreover, Nel and Statkraft agreed to deliver 40 MW of electrolyzer equipment under a deal they signed, working together to build a solid value chain for Norway’s generation of green hydrogen.

Nel just received a purchase order from Statkraft for 40 MW of alkaline electrolyser machinery. The electrolyser stacks will be made at Nel’s manufacturing facility in Herya and utilized in one of Statkraft’s several hydrogen projects to produce renewable hydrogen.

Visit to Norway

Both statements were made in conjunction with Robert Habeck, the vice chancellor of Germany, visiting the fully automated electrolyser production facility at Herya, Norway, owned by Nel. Together with his colleague, Minister of Petroleum and Energy Terje Lien Aasland, the delegation also includes Norwegian Minister of Commerce and Industry Jan Christian Vestre.
