H2 Energy Europe gets environmental nod for Danish hydrogen project

Hydrogen

Denmark – H2 Energy Europe has received environmental approval for its ambitious green hydrogen production facility in Esbjerg.

This achievement not only marks a crucial step towards a Final Investment Decision (FID) but also aligns seamlessly with Esbjerg’s Vision 2025, aimed at transforming the municipality into a sustainable energy metropolis. The environmental approval signals Esbjerg’s potential as a prominent green business city in Europe, sending a clear message that private investors can receive approvals for large-scale projects.

Decarbonization

The proposed facility boasts a 1 GW electrolysis capacity, promising substantial economic contributions. It is expected to create approximately 60 permanent jobs and up to 700 jobs during the construction phase. Additionally, the facility will produce CO2-neutral surplus heat, with the potential to supply the majority of households in Esbjerg with district heating.

The completion of the proposed hydrogen pipeline by 2028 is crucial for distributing green hydrogen to other European countries, contributing to Denmark’s economy. The facility aims to support the decarbonization of heavy industries, road transportation, and serve as a chemical feedstock for sustainable e-fuels, advancing Europe’s green transition.
