Nordsol and RenEco partner on bio-LNG plant in UK

Biobased Oil&Gas

United Kingdom – Dutch bio-LNG installation developer Nordsol is teaming up with RenEco to establish the United Kingdom’s inaugural bio-LNG production facility.

RenEco, an organization that specializes in processing organic waste and generating biogas and electricity, will be the host of this bio-LNG production facility. Currently, RenEco’s operations involve the conversion of organic waste into valuable biogas and electricity. With the new installation, they are poised to take their commitment to sustainability to the next level by converting this biogas into liquefied natural gas (LNG).

The facility’s strategic location near the town of Rushden, situated more than a hundred kilometers north of London, makes it well-positioned to serve the energy needs of the UK’s bustling capital and surrounding regions.

Greening transport sector

The primary goal of this collaborative venture is to supply the transport sector with a clean and renewable source of energy. Currently, the biogas produced by RenEco is primarily used for generating heat and electricity. However, with the introduction of the new installation, this biogas can be transformed into LNG, a versatile and eco-friendly fuel. LNG is renowned for its environmental benefits, as it produces significantly fewer emissions compared to traditional fossil fuels.

The initial capacity of the installation is estimated to produce approximately 3.4 tons of bio-LNG annually. This substantial output is set to make a notable impact on reducing the carbon footprint of the transport sector in the UK. It aligns with the nation’s broader goals of achieving cleaner and more sustainable transportation solutions.

Growth plans

Nordsol envisions a future where bio-LNG becomes a prominent feature of the UK’s energy landscape. The company is determined to build multiple bio-LNG plants in the United Kingdom, further solidifying the nation’s status as a leader in sustainable energy practices. In fact, Nordsol has plans to double the capacity of the RenEco installation by the year 2025, underlining their commitment to driving positive change in the renewable energy sector.
