Johnson Matthey and Hystar collaborate on HyPilot hydrogen project

Hydrogen

Norway – Johnson Matthey has entered into a three-year strategic supply agreement with Hystar to support HyPilot project by providing membrane electrode assemblies for their proton exchange membrane electrolysers.

Under the agreement, Johnson Matthey will supply the necessary components for Hystar’s autonomous, containerized PEM electrolyser, which is expected to have a hydrogen production capacity of up to 745 kilograms per day. The HyPilot project represents an important step in advancing renewable hydrogen production in Norway.

The collaboration between Johnson Matthey and Hystar is an extension of their ongoing partnership, which commenced in 2021 with a focus on electrolyser stack development. By leveraging Johnson Matthey’s expertise in electrolyser technology, manufacturing capability, and supply chain access, combined with Hystar’s commitment to renewable hydrogen production, the two companies are poised to make significant contributions to the emerging hydrogen economy.

Transition to greener future

Renewable hydrogen is gaining traction as a key component of decarbonization efforts worldwide. With its ability to store and transport clean energy, hydrogen holds promise for a wide range of applications, including fuel cells, transportation, and industrial processes. By partnering with Hystar, Johnson Matthey is positioning itself at the forefront of this burgeoning industry, contributing to the advancement of sustainable technologies and playing a vital role in the transition to a greener future.

The strategic supply agreement between Johnson Matthey and Hystar underscores the growing importance of collaboration and innovation in the renewable energy sector. As the world seeks to reduce carbon emissions and combat climate change, partnerships like this are instrumental in driving technological advancements, expanding production capacities, and ultimately accelerating the adoption of renewable hydrogen as a viable and clean energy solution.
