Gas network operators in Germany convert pipelines to hydrogen

Hydrogen

Germany – A gas transport pipeline is currently being modified by German gas network providers OGE and Nowega so that it may carry hydrogen over long distances. At the compressor station in Emsbüren, the game officially began. This relates to the Emsbüren to Bad Bentheim and then Legden segments of the pipeline.

For two days, the natural gas is pumped from the pertinent pipe to another pipe. The natural gas network will then be instantly cut off from this component. 46 kilometers of pipeline are involved. These will be modified to make them appropriate for transporting hydrogen. Beginning in 2025, hydrogen is anticipated to flow through the pipeline.

GET H2 Nucleus

The GET H2 Nucleus project, which receives funding from the European Union as an IPCEI project (important project of common European interest), includes the conversion of the pipeline. A natural gas pipeline from Lingen to Bad Bentheim will also go through the same conversion in November in addition to these two pipes. Since September, Nowega has also begun constructing a new pipeline near Lingen. The GET H2 program seeks to create a nationwide hydrogen infrastructure in Germany.
