FID taken for New York’s first offshore wind farm

Renewables

United States – The project to build New York’s first offshore wind farm, South Fork Wind, has taken final investment decision (FID) in a 50-50 joint venture between Ørsted and Eversource.

The companies’ commitment to the 130 MW offshore wind project has been confirmed by the final investment decision. To meet New York State’s nation-leading clean electricity goals, a new offshore wind farm will produce enough clean renewable energy for about 75,000 homes when it is completed by the end of 2023. Last month, the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) gave final approval to the South Fork Wind project’s construction and operations plan.

Offshore wind commitment

The Biden Administration plans to have 30 GW of offshore wind power installed nationwide by 2030, while New York State has set a goal of 9 GW of offshore wind power by 2035. Ørsted and Eversource applaud these commitments to the advancement of offshore wind and will be making a contribution of approximately 1.8 GW in the Northeast with South Fork Wind and two other projects already awarded.
