Smoltek obtains green hydrogen patent

Hydrogen

Sweden – In order to produce green hydrogen, Smoltek Nanotech has obtained a new invention, the first in a new patent family, titled “Electro Catalyst Support”.

The discovery explains how Smoltek’s carbon nanofibers may more effectively sustain the iridium catalyst load in a PEM electrolyzer. Smoltek has a sizable and expanding patent portfolio made up of over 110 patent assets, 80 of which have already been issued, which it uses to protect the revolutionary technology platform used by the business.

Electro Catalyst Support

The most recent patent is the first in a new patent family called “Electro Catalyst Support” and it relates to using Smoltek’s primary technology in electrochemical cells. In this instance, how the group company Smoltek Hydrogen may use the technology to both boost output per square inch of the PEM water electrolyzer cell and significantly reduce the quantity of iridium catalyst load.

A catalyst that is supported by a nanostructure and an electrolyzer are both covered by the Electro Catalyst Support patent family. The invention relates to equipment for electrolysis, specifically for the electrolysis of water, a method for creating hydrogen gas without the use of fossil fuels. It offers ways to transform extra electrical energy from intermittent energy sources, like wind and solar power, into chemical energy for subsequent storage and consumption.
