RWE secures land option for green hydrogen plant in Teesside

Hydrogen

United Kingdom – RWE is forging ahead with plans to establish a green hydrogen production plant in Teesside, with the acquisition of a significant land option at Wilton International.

The proposed plant, with an initial size of up to 260 megawatts-electrolyzer (MWe), is poised to become a cornerstone of the region’s green energy infrastructure. By harnessing electrolysis technology, RWE seeks to produce up to five tonnes per hour of green hydrogen, offering a sustainable alternative to conventional fossil fuels.

Development land

Situated at Wilton International, the secured development land offers an ideal location for RWE’s green hydrogen plant. Positioned within the Teesside Industrial area and adjacent to industrial energy users, the site boasts strategic proximity to planned hydrogen pipelines, facilitating seamless integration into the region’s decarbonization efforts. Teesside’s commitment to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050 aligns perfectly with RWE’s vision of fostering a cleaner and more sustainable energy landscape.

With operational readiness targeted for 2028, RWE aims to collaborate closely with potential industrial customers to explore opportunities for hydrogen utilization in decarbonization efforts.
