AECOM to oversee Chemours’ hydrogen expansion in France

Hydrogen

France – AECOM has been chosen to oversee the expansion of The Chemours Company’s green hydrogen production facility in the Villers-Saint Paul (VSP) region of France.

This partnership aims to enhance the capacity and technology of Chemours’ Nafion™ Ion Exchange materials platform, a vital component for electrolysers that produce green hydrogen. The expansion will enable Chemours to meet the increasing market demand for clean hydrogen generation and support its global decarbonization efforts.

The expertise of AECOM in global asset delivery, coupled with its local presence, made it the preferred partner for this expansion project. AECOM has a strong track record of providing environmental, engineering, and project management services in France for over three decades. The company has successfully executed projects across various industry sectors, both in the public and private domains, aligning its expertise with the strategic goals of prominent clients and innovative designers. The expansion is expected to bring economic benefits to the local community by creating job opportunities and fostering collaboration between AECOM, Chemours, and other companies.

Wider hydrogen adoption

The collaboration with Chemours further establishes AECOM’s leading role in the development of green hydrogen. Earlier this year, AECOM announced a strategic agreement with Spanish infrastructure group URBAS to develop projects involving green hydrogen, green ammonia, and biofuels. AECOM is also part of a framework contributing to ATOME Energy’s green hydrogen and ammonia facility in Villeta, Paraguay, which receives support from Paraguay’s National Electricity Commission.

The expansion of Chemours’ green hydrogen production facility in France represents a significant step toward the wider adoption of clean energy sources and the reduction of carbon emissions. AECOM’s involvement as the overseer of this expansion project showcases the company’s commitment to sustainable infrastructure development and its expertise in delivering complex projects in the renewable energy sector.
