Germany/Ireland The Nordex Group has secured a 99.5 MW order from Ireland’s Oweninny Power DAC, a joint venture between ESB and Bord na Móna.

The order covers the delivery and installation of 31 N117/3600 turbines with a decreased output of 3.21 MW, as well as a premium service for the turbines’ maintenance and servicing over a 15-year term.

Delivery and installation in spring 2022

The grid connection and power export capacity of the plant are 83 MW. The “Oweninny 2” wind farm will be constructed in County Mayo, Ireland’s west coast. Delivery and installation of the turbines on the project’s 117.5-meter tubular steel towers is anticipated to begin in spring 2022. The vessel is planned to be commissioned by the end of the same year.

The “Oweninny 2” wind farm was successful in the first phase of the Renewable Electricity Support Scheme (RESS) auction held in July 2020. The RESS is intended to assist Ireland in meeting its promise to generate 70% of its electricity from renewable sources by 2030. The Irish government is encouraging the use of the country’s natural wind resources to help the country meet the renewable energy targets outlined in the 2019 Climate Action Plan for Renewable Energy. This plan details Ireland’s strategy for meeting its 2030 carbon reduction targets and achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.
