Vattenfall delivers fossil-free energy to Neste in Finland

Sustainable energy

Finland Vattenfall will deliver 100 percent fossil-free energy from its Nordic hydropower plants to Neste in Finland beginning January 1, 2022.

The hydropower agreement’s total annual volume is 800 GWh of electricity purchased with Guarantees of Origin (GOs).

Neste is the world’s leading manufacturer of renewable diesel and sustainable aviation fuel derived from waste and residues. Neste has been a Vattenfall customer since 2019, and the agreement has been extended until 2024.

Vattenfall’s stated goal is to achieve fossil-free living within one generation. The collaboration with Neste exemplifies how Vattenfall can help customers achieve their climate goals by utilizing fossil-free electricity and flexible energy solutions.

Neste has made three climate commitments to combat climate change and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Reducing greenhouse gas emissions from its own production, reducing the emission intensity of products sold by Neste, and reducing customer emissions through Neste’s renewable and circular solutions.

As part of these climate commitments, the new hydropower agreement will allow Neste to meet Finland’s 100% renewable electricity target as early as 2022.
