Swiss Steel Group takes the lead in carbon emission reduction

Sustainable energy

Switzerland – The Swiss Steel Group has made the decision to join the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) supply chain initiative, making it the first steel company in both Europe and the entire globe to do so.

The Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) supplier Chain Program is a global initiative that supports businesses in measuring and lowering their supplier chain’s CO2 emissions.

It enables businesses to precisely trace their CO2 emissions across the supply chain and aids them in better understanding and improving the environmental performance of their suppliers. The Swiss Steel Group has contacted its 150 most significant raw material and consumable suppliers as part of this program in order to learn more about each one’s unique carbon footprint.

PCF

This makes it possible for the Swiss Steel Group to take environmental performance of its suppliers into account when making purchasing decisions. Additionally, compared to secondary emission factors based on averages, requesting primary emission data directly from the supplier provides a more precise assessment of the product carbon footprint (PCF). The Swiss Steel Group will soon be able to give its clients a more precise PCF that more accurately depicts the carbon footprint of their particular goods.
