Spain/Portugal – Siemens Gamesa and Iberdrola have signed several three- to five-year maintenance contracts totaling 1,928 MW at 69 of the energy group’s wind farms in Spain and Portugal.
The agreements cover 1,963 Siemens Gamesa G4X (660 kW unit power), G5X (850 kW), G8/9X (2.0 MW), Siemens Gamesa 2.X (SG 2.1-114 y SG 2.6-114), and Siemens Gamesa 3.X (SG 3.4-132) wind turbines. Siemens Gamesa strengthens its position as Iberdrola’s primary provider of operation and maintenance services in the region with these new contracts. New and renewed contracts are included in the agreements.
The total workforce required to maintain the wind farms covered by these contracts is estimated to be around 160 people. Because technicians are mostly based in the rural areas where the wind farm is located, the maintenance work helps to support economic activity and employment in these areas.
The maintenance services for these turbines, which are the oldest in Iberdrola’s fleet, are expected to improve their efficiency and extend their useful life in the mid to long term.
Siemens Gamesa provides programs to maximize energy production, improve availability, and reduce operation and maintenance (O&M) costs over the turbine’s lifetime, in addition to providing operation and maintenance services. In this regard, the agreement reached by Siemens Gamesa and Iberdrola includes design modifications and improvements to the installed fleet during the term of the maintenance contracts, with the goal of modernizing the fleet and safely increasing wind turbine energy production.
Siemens Gamesa will now have 14GW under maintenance for over 340 customers in 12 countries across Southern Europe and Africa as a result of this agreement.
