Saipem supports Saint Brieuc and Formosa 2 offshore wind projects

Renewables

France – The offshore wind farm in Saint-Brieuc, Brittany, France, developed by Ailes Marines, a division of the Iberdrola corporation, has been successfully transported and installed thanks to the efforts of Saipem.

The Saipem 7000, one of the biggest semi-submersible crane ships in the world, which is currently permitted to operate with a lifting capacity in accordance with Saint-Brieuc project technical requirements, completed the work in two phases. The 3400 tons of topside and the 1630 tons of jacket for the electrical substation were installed by Saipem.

The electricity generated by the 62 wind turbines will be collected at the High Voltage Alternative Current substation and raised to 225 kV before being exported by RTE, France’s Electricity Transmission Network, via two export cables. By the first half of 2023, it is anticipated that the offshore electrical substation will be connected to the mainland. This is the second electrical substation to be installed in a French offshore wind farm and the first one in Brittany.

Formosa 2 project

Saipem has successfully finished the scope of work for the client Jan de Nul, EPCI contractor for the aforementioned contract, for the Formosa 2 offshore wind farm in Taiwan, which involved the fabrication of 32 jacket for an equivalent number of wind turbine generators. A collaboration between Macquarie’s Green Investment Group, Swancor Renewable Energy, and JERA is building the wind farm offshore Miaoli County on Taiwan’s west coast.

For Saipem, producing the Jackets for the Formosa 2 project is a first. The fabrication, which totaled about 50,000 tons, took place at the company’s Karimun Yard in Indonesia, which had been upgraded for the construction of wind farms. The final jacket has been loaded out and given to Jan de Nul for delivery and installation in Taiwan.

Saipem has contributed to the accomplishment of significant steps in these Offshore Wind projects with the help of the company’s dedication and teamwork, confirming its position in the energy transition.
