Denmark – Neil O’Donovan has been appointed CEO of Ørsted’s Onshore division and a new member of the Executive Committee, effective 15 September 2021.

Since 3 August 2021, Neil O’Donovan has served as interim CEO of the business unit and as Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Ørsted Onshore since 2018.

Thorough recruitment process

Since Declan Flanagan, the former CEO of Ørsted Onshore, departed in early August, Neil O’Donovan has served as temporary CEO. Simultaneously, Ørsted performed a thorough recruitment process, considering both internal and external candidates, and determined that Neil O’Donovan is the best candidate for the permanent role of Executive Vice President and Chief Executive Officer of Onshore.

Since joining Ørsted in 2018, the Onshore business segment has grown significantly and currently includes wind, solar, and battery assets in the United States and Europe, totaling 4 GW in operation and under construction. Neil has been instrumental in successfully scaling Ørsted Onshore as COO, and he will now continue his adventure with the company as CEO.

Neil has a long career in the energy sector, holding global positions in technology, operations, and commercial areas. He earned a master’s degree in mechanical engineering from the University of California, Berkeley, in the United States of America.
