Italy – Odra Energia has submitted a ministerial authorization application for its floating offshore wind farm project off the coast of the province of Lecce.
The distance from the coast to the turbines has been increased by 30%, to a minimum distance of 12.8 km offshore, as opposed to the original plans for the project.
The decision to move the turbines further out to sea was made in response to Odra Energia’s discussions with local communities prior to beginning the authorisation process, and it involved a technical redesign and revision of the wind farm’s economic case due to the impact on construction, operation, and maintenance.
Annual clean energy production from the proposed Odra Energia offshore wind farm project is estimated to be around 4 terawatt hours (TWh), equivalent to the annual consumption of more than one million families and avoiding the emission of more than 2 million tonnes of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere.
It would consist of 90 floating wind turbines with a total installed capacity of around 1.3 GW.
The Ministry of Infrastructure and the Southern Adriatic Sea Port System Authority will both be notified of the revised sea concession application.
