Eni invests in Spanish floating wind technology

Renewables

Spain – Plenitude (Eni) will invest in EnerOcean, the Spanish developer of the W2Power floating wind energy technology.

The agreement is set up as a long-term partnership with the goal of deploying W2Power technology as a leading contender for floating wind power projects around the world.

Open sea testing

W2Power achieves one of the highest power-to-weight ratios and the lowest levelized cost of energy of any floating wind power technology by mounting two wind turbines on the same floater’s frame, which always face the prevailing wind. This ground-breaking solution incorporates patented features and proprietary technology elements, and it has successfully completed prototype testing in open sea in Spanish waters, making it the world’s first multi-turbine solution to achieve this level of maturity.

Plenitude will invest capital and expertise in EnerOcean’s development program and will initially hold a 25% equity stake in the company, which will operate independently.
