EDF Renewables UK and DP Energy partner on UK floating wind project

United KingdomEDF Renewables, one of the UK’s leading renewable energy companies, has announced a joint venture with international renewable project developer DP Energy to generate up to 1GW of low carbon green energy in the Celtic Sea.

The project will most likely cross English and Welsh waters. The ‘Gwynt Glas’ floating offshore wind project will power approximately 927,400 homes. This will contribute significantly to the Crown Estate’s plans for 4GW of capacity in the Celtic Sea, which were announced in October 2021.

Work on identifying a refined area of search and conducting detailed constraint studies for the project’s proposed location is already underway. A 1,500km2 area of interest has been identified, approximately 70km from the shore, with initial remote aerial surveys for marine mammals and birds beginning in Spring 2021. In the coming weeks, the project team will consult with key stakeholders and interested parties to fine-tune the proposed site location.
