United States – Sunrise Wind has secured its Record of Decision (RoD) from the US Department of the Interior’s Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM).
Together with the final investment decision jointly taken by Ørsted and Eversource, this achievement underscores the commitment to advancing clean energy initiatives in New York.
Situated approximately 30 miles east of Montauk, New York, Sunrise Wind boasts a capacity of 924 megawatts (MW). With the capacity to power nearly 600,000 homes in New York, the project aligns closely with the state’s ambitious renewable energy targets, aiming to achieve 70% renewable energy by 2030.
Fostering economic prosperity
Sunrise Wind is not just about clean energy; it’s about fostering economic prosperity and job creation across New York. The project is expected to inject USD 700 million of investment into Suffolk County, creating 800 direct jobs.
New York’s commitment to offshore wind development is evident through its selection of Sunrise Wind to negotiate a 25-year contract in supplying reliable green energy to the state. The partnership between Ørsted, Eversource, and New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) exemplifies collaborative efforts aimed at advancing clean energy transitions and fostering innovation in the renewable energy sector.
