Ireland – Ørsted has made the Final Investment Decision (FID) for the Farranrory onshore wind farm in Tipperary.
The Farranrory Onshore Wind Farm is poised to comprise nine wind turbines, collectively possessing the capacity to generate 43.2 MW of green electricity. The anticipated operational start-up is set for the summer of 2026. Upon completion, Ørsted’s operational capacity across solar power and onshore wind in Ireland and Northern Ireland will surpass 500 MW.
The decision to move forward with the Farranrory project follows its triumphant bid under the Irish Government’s Renewable Electricity Support Scheme 3 (RESS 3) auction in September 2023. With an average strike price of EUR 100.47 per MWh, in alignment with comparable European markets, Ørsted showcases a strategic and economically viable approach to renewable energy ventures.
Powering Irish homes
Upon operational readiness, the Farranrory Onshore Wind Farm is projected to produce energy equivalent to powering 25,000 Irish homes with renewable electricity. This not only signifies a substantial contribution to Ireland’s renewable energy goals but also underscores Ørsted’s commitment to establishing the necessary infrastructure for seamless grid connectivity.
