Norway – Equinor and Hitachi Energy have agreed to work together on electrification, the production of renewable energy, and low-carbon initiatives across the globe.

The partnership highlights both businesses’ dedication to advancing a more sustainable, adaptable, and secure energy system and accelerating the energy transition. The scope of the agreement includes every power grid technology and solution offered by Hitachi Energy.

Offshore wind support

Hitachi Energy has supported Equinor with power grid solutions and pioneering technologies on various projects, including Dogger Bank A, B, and C, the world’s largest offshore wind farm when completed, and Troll A, the first HVDC power-from-shore connection.

To connect offshore wind farms and Equinor production facilities to mainland power grids, the collaboration’s initial areas of interest include developing standardised base designs that can be used for high-voltage direct current (DC) and alternating current (AC) transmission networks.

“Hitachi Energy has been a reliable supplier to Equinor for many years. This strategic collaboration agreement is a signal of joint ambitions to increase our competitiveness in the ongoing energy transition. Standardization of technical solutions will be a key to succeed, and we look forward to improving together with Hitachi Energy” said Geir Tungesvik, executive vice president for Projects, Drilling and Procurement at Equinor.
