United Kingdom – Global Energy Group (GEG) plans development of a rolled tubular manufacturing facility at the Port of Nigg to meet the needs of Scotland’s burgeoning offshore renewables sector.
The proposal calls for the establishment of a majority-UK-owned and operated manufacturing rolling facility, with GEG as the site’s majority operator. The company is working on a revised business case as the primary operator of the site with strategic partners, with a combined focus on supporting both the development of floating offshore wind technology and wind turbine towers.
Delivering renewables
Following the ScotWind leasing for offshore wind farms, as well as the development of the Freeport and the upcoming Crown Estates INTOG leasing round, it is expected that the Cromarty Firth and Port of Nigg will play a critical role in providing the manufacturing skills and knowhow required to deliver renewables technology. The demolition of existing workshops and the creation of new space have already begun on the site as part of the preparation work.
