United Kingdom – Falck Renewables, BlueFloat Energy, and Ørsted UK have all expressed support for the Cromarty Firth’s application for Scottish Green Freeport status.
The three companies have joined Opportunity Cromarty Firth (OCF), a partnership of private, public, and academic sector bodies dedicated to ensuring the Highlands is home to one of Scotland’s two future Green Freeports, after securing seabed leases in the recent ScotWind round.
The OCF believes that a Green Freeport in the Cromarty Firth will maximize local and Scottish benefits from a massive pipeline of renewable energy projects and skilled jobs, putting the Highlands at the forefront of the transition to net-zero energy.
Transferring expertise
All three global companies agree that giving the Cromarty Firth Green Freeport status is in line with their plans to invest billions of pounds in developing floating offshore wind projects off the Scottish coast and boosting investment in the Scottish supply chain.
Scotland’s oil and gas expertise, according to Falck Renewables, BlueFloat Energy, and Ørsted UK, can be transferred to the floating offshore wind sector. Fabrication and manufacturing facilities, as well as technological capabilities, already exist in the north of Scotland, maximizing the opportunity to create a pipeline of jobs.
