France – The first offshore wind turbine in France has been installed by GE at the Saint-Nazaire offshore wind farm.
By the end of 2022, 79 more Haliade 150-6MW wind turbines will be installed and operational. The 480 MW wind farm will use 80 GE Haliade 150-6MW turbines made in France. This is France’s first commercial offshore wind farm, led by EDF Renewables and its partners Enbrige and CPP.
Loire-Atlantique
Saint-Nazaire offshore wind farm is located in the Loire-Atlantique region in coastal France. According to GE, each Haliade turbine powers 5,000 homes; the project is expected to generate the equivalent of 20% of the Loire-Atlantiqueā€™s electricity consumption. The turbines will be located between 12 and 20 kilometres off the coast of the Loire-Atlantique, at depths ranging from 12 to 25 meters, and will cover an area of approximately 78 square kilometres.
The nacelles for the Haliade 150-6MW wind turbines were assembled at GE’s Saint-Nazaire facility, and the 73-meter blades were produced by LM Wind Power, a GE Renewable Energy company.
