Sweden – OX2 has applied for a Natura 2000 permit for an offshore wind farm between the islands of Gotland and land in the Swedish Exclusive Economic Zone.
Aurora is the name of the wind farm, which will be 20 kilometers south of Gotland and 30 kilometers east of the island. Up to 370 turbines with a maximum height of 370 meters will be installed in the wind farm.
The wind farm’s annual electricity production is estimated to be around 24 TWh, which is enough to power about 5 million homes for a year. The project also equates to a 14 million tonne reduction in carbon dioxide emissions per year.
Permit application
The County Administrative Board of Gotland is currently processing OX2’s permit application, which includes an environmental impact assessment, or EIA. The project is part of OX2’s Swedish project development portfolio, which had grown to 11.3 GW by the end of the third quarter.
