Germany – Ørsted has awarded Boskalis an inter-array cable installation contract for the German offshore wind farms Borkum Riffgrund 3 and Gode Wind 3.
The contract calls for the transportation, installation, and burial of 106 inter-array cables.
The Boka Ocean cable laying vessel will be used to complete the project. This 136-meter-long vessel, which was purchased earlier this year, will be outfitted with a 4,000-ton turntable. Preparations for the project will begin soon, with cable installation activities scheduled for early 2024.
Borkum Riffgrund 3 and Gode Wind 3 offshore wind farms will have 900 MW and 242 MW capacity, respectively. Both wind farms are located in the North Sea, off the northern coast of Germany. These two offshore wind farms, when combined, are expected to provide green renewable energy to approximately 1.2 million German households. The contract will be awarded subject to Ørsted’s final investment decision.
Boskalis’ strategy aims to capitalize on key macroeconomic factors that drive worldwide demand in our markets: global economic expansion, increased energy consumption, global population growth, and the challenges associated with climate change. Because of climate change and rising energy consumption, this project is concerned with the development of renewable energy sources.
