The Netherlands – The nacelle of a wind turbine in the Dutch Borssele 1 & 2 offshore wind farm caught fire after a malfunction.
On October 27, Ørsted announced that Siemens Gamesa, the company that supplies the wind turbines, is looking into the problem. It has been determined which pieces of the damaged wind turbine can be repurposed after they have been disassembled.
Except for the damaged turbine and two other turbines that are directly connected to it, the offshore wind farm is still in operation. In spite of the fact that the turbines have not been damaged, Ørsted is striving to get them back online as soon as feasible.
Ørsted has fully commissioned the Borssele 1 & 2 offshore wind farm in 2020. The wind farm has a capacity of 752 MW, making it the largest offshore wind farm in the Netherlands and the second largest operating offshore wind farm in the world. Borssele 1 & 2 provides enough green electricity to power one million Dutch households. Borssele 1 & 2 is Ørsted’s first offshore wind farm in the Netherlands.
