Scotland – On 14 September 2021, Fred. Olsen Windcarrier’s jack-up vessel Blue Tern successfully erected the final turbine at Moray East offshore wind farm, completing the installation of Vestas turbines.
The 100 V164-9.5MW turbines will generate 950MW in total, making it the largest offshore wind project in Scottish history to date.
Bold Tern initially installed the turbines on Moray East in January but was later replaced by Blue Tern when the crane underwent regular maintenance.
In May, a meticulously planned vessel substitution was successfully completed. Blue Tern arrived fully loaded at the Moray East site, and the overlap aided in the project’s timetable improvement. The vessel substitution is an excellent illustration of how Fred. Olsen Windcarrier assists clients by thinking outside the box.
